Step Off for Knee Health and Strength
I first saw this exercise from Ben Patrick (the “knees-over-toes guy”). It’s great for reducing knee pain, improving ankle mobility, and building leg strength and stability. I’ve been applying it with a lot of clients, and it works.
Stand on a step with your whole foot—heels supported, no hanging over the edge with your toes.
Pretend like you’re about to step off. Slowly lower your other foot toward the ground without putting weight on it.
Let the knee of your standing leg slide forward as far as possible.
When you feel your heel start to lift off the step, stop and push back up.
Repeat for 10 to 15 reps. Do 3 sets.
(!) Take it slow—this is about control, not speed. Stick with it, and your knees will thank you.
